22, 23 September (+ 25 – 29 September)
24, 25 November (+ 27 November – 1 December)
Venue: The Foyle Centre, Retreat, Kings Langley, Hertfordshire WD4 8LT (plenty of parking and close to Kings Langley station).
The charity’s famous Booksales at The Retreat are generously supported by the trade. They donate books from their current title list and backlist as stock for the volunteers at The Retreat to sell to the public to raise much-needed funds for its work.
Prices range from £2 for paperbacks and children’s books and £4 for hardbacks, with oversize ‘coffee table’ books individually priced, and many children’s books at 50p or £1
“This is a positive and straightforward way to ensure our excess stock is used for the benefit of our colleagues who need the charity’s help,” David Young, The Book Trade Charity (BTBS) President remarked recently. With five Booksale dates in 2016, more than £70,000 will be raised to support the charity’s welfare programmes.
“It is just amazing to find such a variety of subjects and current titles, all clearly set out to make it easy to buy – and there must be over 20,000 titles there, at least” .
“I go home with far more than I can really carry, but I just can’t resist books which are such bargains, knowing the proceeds are going to such a good cause.”
