You can now make a donation online at VirginMoneyGiving.

The most effective way to help is with a donation under the Gift Aid scheme. All personal donations to the charity can be tax-effective; by completing a short form you allow the charity to reclaim from Inland Revenue an additional sum equivalent to 25% of your donation, from the tax you have already paid i.e. at no extra cost to you. The Book Trade Charity will send you the form which can be completed after you have made your donation.

The other tax effective way to support your trade charity is through payroll giving (Give As You Earn). Contact your employer or The Book Trade Charity for further information.

A legacy to a charity is completely free from inheritance tax, so such a bequest is taken away from the value of the estate before tax liability is calculated. We greatly welcome all legacies, but a residual legacy has special benefits for us; this is the remains of your estate after all other legacies, expenses, debts and tax have been paid. Its value therefore goes up with the increase in value of your estate, offsetting any effects of inflation. If you would like to show your support, please contact The Book Trade Charity for further information.

Book Sales

If you like books, you will love our Booksales.  We offer a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, children’s and ‘coffee table’ books, all at bargain prices.

Stock is donated by the book trade – publishers, wholesalers, literary agents and bookshops – in support of our work.  We have thousands of new and nearly new (but not second-hand) books at very attractive prices (most paperbacks and children’s books are £2 each, hardbacks from £3).  If you think a charity booksale is a couple of trestles of second-hand books, think again! – visit us.  Admission free.

Sales are held at The Retreat, corner of Gallows Hill/Abbots Road, Abbots Langley, Herts WD4 8LT (Tel 01923 263128 email david@btbs.org)

Our sales are open during the following hours:

Fridays 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm

Saturdays 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
